What Is an IPS Officer's Salary and Facilities?

An IPS officer's salary starts from ₹56,100 (that does not consist of travelling allowance, dearness allowance and house rent allowance) that can go up to ₹2,25,000 per month. An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer begins his service with a standard salary of ₹56,000 and goes up to ₹2,25,000 at maximum with an increase in ranks and seniority.

An IPS officer's monthly salary is ₹64,000, out of which the officer receives a monthly in-hand compensation of ₹54,000 approximately.

In the new pay structure, the pay grades system for Civil Services has been removed, and its place has been taken by a new pay structure that is consolidated pay levels. Now the IPS pay scale is decided solely on the basic pay along with Travelling Allowance (TA), Dearness Allowance (DA) and House Rent Allowance (HRA). The entry salary of IPS officers does not change, and it remains the same. An IPS start receiving a salary right from the training days. According to the recommendations of the 7th pay commission, the total salary of an IPS officer during the training days as per the 10th level of pay structure is approximately  ₹55,000 or a little above. The salary is different in different states. The salary of an IPS officer has increased considerably after the recommendations of the 7th pay commission were accepted.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), when newly enlisted, has the following responsibilities to keep in mind on his duty:

After Assistant Deputy Commissioner, an IPS is promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police, the role of an SP is to oversee the police's financial collection department. The IPS officer should make sure that all the laws and regulations should be adhered to at the regional level in the district alloted to him. For example, any related environmental rules, health pointers or traffic guidelines, etc. They also should try and spread awareness amongst people regarding various laws and policies. The local police, too, should be in action all the time for the effective implementation of such laws and regulations. During the probation period, the grade pay of IPS is ₹5400. As he climbs the rungs of seniority with time, his grade pay rises to ₹6600. After serving nine years, an IPS is promoted to junior administrative grade, where his grade pay becomes ₹7600. Then comes selection grade where grade pay becomes ₹8700, after which promotions are given in super time scale, senior administrative grade and higher administrative grade where the grade is ₹8900,₹10,000 and ₹1,2000 respectively.

The staff panel includes a driver, security guard, house help etc. Medical facilities provided include the facility of getting treatment anywhere. This treatment cost is at times partially or fully reimbursed. The electricity and phone bills are also returned from the government's end. The highest level of post an IPS officer gets is DGP or Commissioner of Police. Then he becomes head of the state police.
