• Quarters or HRA (House Rent Allowance) - Officers are provided with residential quarters, but if the officer wishes to make his own arrangements HRA is provided according to the job location.

• Dearness Allowance (DA) - Dearness Allowance is calculated according to the rate of inflation.

• Travel Allowance for Leave - This is an employee incentive. The amount of leave travel allowance depends on various factors. 

• Gratuity – Gratuity is provided as a token of appreciation to the officers for their services.

• Provident Fund - The Provident Fund is provided to officers as a retirement benefit.

• CGHS Medical Facility – It covers the medical needs of IES officers. In some departments, it is provided as an extra payout.

• Personal Assistant – A personal assistant is assigned to the IES officer who assists with official duties.

• Peon – IES officers are provided with a peon to help with official work.

• Leave Encashment – If paid leaves are pending at the year's end, the facility to encash them is provided to the officers.

• Official Vehicle – The official vehicle is provided to officers for official work like covering sites and attending meetings and seminars.

• Driver – A driver is provided to drive the official car of the IES officer.

Deductions from an IES Officer’s Salary

In accordance with government policies, certain deductions are made from the IES salary per month. These IES officer salary deductions are as follows. 

• 10% of gross salary is deducted as PF amount from the salary of the officer

• ₹325 is deducted as central government employees group insurance.

• 10% of the basic salary and dearness allowance are deducted as NPS payment

Career Growth of an IES Officer

The career progression of an IES officer is described below: 

• The initial posting of a candidate after clearing an IES examination is Assistant Executive Engineer or Assistant Director in any government department.

• After 4 years of service, the officer can be promoted to the post of Executive Engineer or Director. It depends on their individual performance.

• An officer becomes eligible to be promoted to the level of Joint General Manager or Chief Engineer of level 2 after 13 years of service.

• The last promotion is given after 34 years of service when the officer is promoted to the level of Managing Director or Chairperson.
