Tally Prime can be installed on a system that runs at least Windows 7, 64-bit version. For a successful installation, you'll need administrator rights. The operating system must support various languages.
Procedure for Tally Prime Download & Installation
The setup files must be downloaded. For this follow these steps -
1. Visit the website.
2. Click on the Tally Prime Download button.
3. Choose a location for the setup.exe file to be saved.
4. Save the file.
How to install Tally Prime
1. Setup.exe should be double-clicked.
2. Also double click on Install New for installation
If you don't want Tally Prime to be put in the default folder, use the Configure button.
1. The application is installed by default at C: Program Files Tally Program.
2. Configuration is the next option.
3. Select Application Path by double-clicking it.
4. Click on ... and change the path as per your choice
Note- It is advised that you install Tally Prime in a different location if you are already using Tally.ERP 9. This will allow you to use two products at the same time if necessary.
- Close the list of the configurations window.
- Click on install. The application gets installed and the following window gets open.
Activating Tally Prime for New Users
The Silver Licence can be activated on one computer only whereas the Gold Licence needs to be activated on one computer on the LAN and thereafter it can be configured on all other installations using the same licence.
Procedure for activating the new licence:
- Open your Tally Prime. A screen named, ‘Welcome to Tally Prime’ appears.
- Click on the button Activate New Licence.
For single site licence activation enter your Serial Number, Activation Key and Administrator E-mail id
Note: The e-mail ID which is entered here will be used for all future communications.
- Press Enter for proceeding. The Unlock Licence screen will appear.
- The unlock key is sent to the E-mail ID. Enter the key. If the unlock key is not received press F2 i.e. Get Unlock Key.
- Enter to unlock the licence.
- Upon successful unlocking the following message shows up:
Tally Prime Educational Version
You can experiment with a Trial version of Tally Prime before making a purchase. Its educational version is available for free to try and learn. In this situation, you can test out all of the product's functions. There will, however, be one stipulation. The Tally Prime educational version, the voucher dates are limited to 1, 2, and 31 days.
- Begin using Tally Prime. The screen that says "Welcome to Tally Prime" appears.
- Click the "Try It For Free" button.

Tally.ERP 9 to Tally Prime Migration
If you already have Tally.ERP 9 installed and your TSS is active, you can upgrade to Tally Prime. Tally Prime should be installed in a new folder. You can continue to use Tally Prime and Tally.ERP 9 after the licence has been established.
You can now open the Company in Tally Prime after updating the licence. This phase will do a one-click migration of the data into Tally Prime.
The following is the procedure to upgrade the existing Tally.ERP 9 to Tally Prime:
- Open Tally Prime
- On Opening click on the Reactivate Existing Licence:
Note: If the Tally Prime is installed in a different folder then use both the products simultaneously if needed.
- The next step is to enter the Tally.NET ID and the password.
- Upon entering the list of licences, the following screen appears.
- Select the required licence from the list
- You will receive the following message once the licence has been configured on the Tally Gateway Server.
- Select yes to activate.
- A screen listing the said companies will appear.
- Select the Company to continue the process:
- The application is now licensed. You can start using Tally Prime for business transactions
Migration to Tally Prime
- Open the company and a message for migration will appear:
- Click on Migrate:
- Upon clicking the company will be migrated and will remain open. You can continue on the same.
