Companies and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) must register under Industrial Activity and Business Profession codes published by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has summarised a selected version of the NIC Classification into a list of industrial activity codes. There are two digits in the code, which represent the main code numbers of the NIC classification. The NIC classification is used to develop and maintain a comparable database for various economic activities.

What is the Industrial Activity Code Under MCA?
An industrial activity code is a part of a company's Corporate Identification Number (CIN). After company registration, it is impossible to amend the Industrial Activity Code of CIN.
Spice MCA forms for company registration and FiLLip forms for LLP registration require filling out the Industrial Activity Code and Business or Profession Code.
FiLLiP Forms: FiLLiP refers to the Form for Incorporation of Limited Liability Partnerships. To simplify the process of LLP registration, MCA introduced Form FiLLiP.
Spice MCA Forms: A simplified form for incorporating a company electronically with MCA is called SPICE, which stands for Simplified Proforma for Incorporating a Company Electronically.

Steps for FiLLip LLP Registration
Incorporating a new LLP with FiLLiP (Form for Incorporation of Limited Liability Partnerships) requires only one name to be submitted for approval. There are three steps involved in the FiLLip LLP registration process:
- Title reservation,
- DIN allocation for designated partners, and
- Incorporation of new LLPs.

How to Change the Business Activity Code of a Company?
A company will change the business activity code under the following cases:
- When a company wants to expand its operations
- A company that takes over another company engaged in a different kind of business
- When a company wants to start a completely new business
- If any law prohibits the current business activity of a company.
The company must file a form with MCA to change its business activity code. Before this, the company has to pass a resolution in the board meeting and a special resolution in the extraordinary general meeting.

The process to file a form with MCA:
If a special resolution is passed in the extraordinary general meeting, the company must file the MGT-14 form. Within 30 days of the resolution date, the form must be submitted to the MCA. The process ends when the company receives approval from MCA.

- Board resolutions in their original form
- Notice of the EGM
- Special resolutions in their proper form.
- Modified memorandum of Association.
